The Tickhill Court Roll is a manuscript in two sections currently held in the British Library and the Society of Antiquaries of London. Extracts from each part were transcribed and written about by Thomas Wakeman in the 19th century and Walter Hall in 1931. Dr Charles Kelham at Doncaster Archives has kindly translated Wakeman's transcription and consented that we make it available on our website.
This article is based on those extracts. It tries to provide some legal and social background to the manor court system and place the fragment of the Tickhill Court Roll and some of its content in its social and historical context.
