Mystery Pictures

These photographs were included in the album of Reg Davies's photographs recently donated to the Society. The first photograph, taken from beside the Buttercross, looks across the Market Place to record the queue stretching back from Tickhill Bakery. Thanks to Doreen Hartley for placing the event in the 1970s -but was it December 1974/early 1975 following shortages caused by the unofficial strikes and reduced working of the Federation of Bakers or later in the 1970s when there were further bread shortages? Do you know anyone who can remember being in the queue? Let us know if you have any clues about the date. Did any other shortages in the 1970s affect Tickhill?

Someone has attempted to tint parts of this second photograph. While two of the workers wear dungarees, the rest wear trousers with waistcoats, even ties. Where in Tickhill was it taken? Who were the men digging what could be foundations for a house?
